DJ Chris Read was asked by BBE Music to join DJ Spinna from New York in selecting and mixing tracks for BBE’s “Best of Perception & Today Records” mix. The New York based label “Perception Productions” ran from the late 60s through until 1974 covering music output from radical Afro-American poet through pop music. The inbetween points covered jazz, funk, vocal harmony soul and proto-disco.

“Shades is a collection of some of Ackryte’s favorite old joints and some new material that’s never been heard before. This album serves as a lead-up to his debut full length album on HW&W, dropping later this year. If you’ve been sleeping on Ackryte, it’s a chance for you to become better acquainted with his work.”
