“Sometimes, its refreshing to get back to the basics : straight up sampling loops. And who better than Mr FloydCheung himself to take up this task?
For those who are to new to Floyd, his name has been circulating greatly in the beat scene for a while now, garnering a reputation for churning out infectious and groovy soul-loops. Early users of the Soundcloud platform would only know this too well.
His tracks have also been featured in numerous compilations, and one that’s definitely worth a mention is his ‘Pain’ cut in Tempo Dreams Vol.1, a well-known compilation put together by the one and only Tall Black Guy.
And indeed he returns with a nifty collection of samples and loops, blessed with his very own discerning groove. Featuring classic selects like “Your Groove”, a gyrating throwback to Aaliyah, and a smooth re-edit of Howard Johnson on “ Keepin’ ” you will be hard pressed to
find Floyd’s distinct synergy anywhere else. An alchemy of sounds old and new which hardly compromise on the essence of soul, while still retaining that catchy, headbopping funk – it is this distinct blend which makes “Diffusing Memories EP” a staple sound of the future.
It may essentially be a DJ tool kit, but punters are invited to go wild on the beats with some freestyle rap, layered on instrumental loops, or whatever you please – so go ahead and infuse these gems to form a bangin’ sound palette, and remember to thank Floyd for it.
Do check out his track on our ‘Assembly Point’ compilation released last year alongside a host of rising Asian beatmakers :
