“The name Jaylotus has been resonating greatly in the SoundCloud world for a significant amount of time now, and has been garnering a steady cult following after a series of releases on various channels. It was therefore essential to have Phillippe Edison craft an EP for us here at Darker Than Wax.
A Jazz saxophonist by training, he began his journey into electronic music, inspired by the music of AFTA-1 andJ Dilla shortly after his departure from Berklee College Of Music in 2010. The turning point came in 2011, when he began to develop his own signature sound, experimenting with live instruments, drum machines and synthesizers.
His musical versatility is once again demonstrated in ‘LIGHT CYCLES’, which sees him delving deep into the G-funk era, paying homage to the established but yet re-interpreting that universe with his own sensiblity. With Jaylotus, nothing is ever quite obvious and straightforward to the ears. With every listen, it takes you in deeper, as a subtle composition of shuffling high hats, dreamy synths and drowned out beats reveal themselves slowly.” – Darker Than Wax
